HOME ASSESSMENT
The Serrano Fire Safe Council offers free Defensible Space and Home Hardening Assessments conducted by Assessors trained by the Fire Department and CAL FIRE:
Explain how a wildfire event could impact your home.
Walk your property with you to identify potential vulnerabilities.
Describe common-sense steps to prevent embers and flames from igniting your home.
And, clarify how and when to coordinate with the HOA before making changes.
A wildfire event occurs when wind-blown embers from a nearby wildfire, a spot fire in the surrounding open space, or even a nearby house fire land in our yard—igniting vegetation and other combustible materials.
While Serrano homes are built with noncombustible siding and fire-rated roofs, flames and embers can still find ways into our homes—just like what happened to the Serrano house shown in the photo.
Our homes are vulnerable to embers entering attics through 1/4-inch vents, and to flames from ignited vegetation and combustible materials shattering windows—allowing both fire and embers to get inside.
A Defensible Space and Home Hardening Assessment will help you identify vulnerabilities around your home and show you practical steps to reduce them—giving your home the best possible chance of surviving a wildfire event.
